Bloom at Chatswood Nights

Originally planned for (pre-COVID) Vivid Sydney 2020, and showcased at Chatswood Nights 2021 on The Concourse, 'Bloom' is a 3D projection mapping artwork, which visualises the changing of seasons. I was selected as one of six domestic and international artists to participate in the Limelight Masterclass program.

In 2019, I volunteered in the Amazon Rainforest in a remote research station. I followed field biologists and tuned into the rhythms of the environment around me. The rainforest swelled in contractions and expansions. Returning home to urban cycles of Sydney felt dizzying. ‘Bloom’ is an attempt for me to integrate the natural world and man-made environment.

Pictured here is me holding a wild snake (that a trained snake biologist handled). The snake mirrors the calmness or anxieties of yourself. Our environments constantly asks us to look into our own rhythms.

As Spring begins, evolving patterns of colours and shapes emerge, with flowers unfurling to reveal their fullness. The artwork projects onto The Concourse, exploring this movement and blossoming within the urban landscape, with themes of becoming and renewal.
