Inner Suchness at Gallery Lane Cove

As part of the Presence of Mind exhibition at Gallery Lane Cove, ‘Inner Suchness’ is an interactive artwork inviting audiences to participate in Tibetan Buddhist mediation practices through video and augmented reality.

Lead Artist and Video: Kristina Mah

Augmented Reality and 3D Art: Wendy Qi Zhang

In our collaborative journey, my artistic exploration with another creator unfolded within the realm of augmented reality (AR) and video, converging on the theme of meditation. Our collaborative process was rooted in open dialogue, where we delved into the intricacies of our individual practices.

Notably, my collaborator, Kristina, immersed herself in Tonglen, a Tibetan Buddhist meditation focused on cultivating compassion. Within the contemplative space of Tonglen, one envisions absorbing the suffering of others and emanating relief in the form of illuminating light.

AR became the canvas through which we could visually manifest the intangible layers of our shared exploration.

The artwork was exhibited at Gallery Lane Cove.

In the course of our collaborative conversations, a profound connection emerged, leading me to a deeper understanding of the mandala as a symbolic offering. The mandala, a sacred and intricate geometric form, became a focal point in our collaborative narrative, symbolizing the convergence of our diverse experiences.

Simultaneously, this collaboration became a catalyst for my personal growth as I gradually found the courage to articulate the typically introspective nature of my own meditative encounters to another individual.
